Today Craftsy Amore will share with you a fun Crochet 3D Butterfly Free Pattern Step By Step Tutorial. I love butterflies, and use crochet butterflies frequently add little applique to add some whimsy and fun to just about anything. I came across a lot of crochet butterflies on Pinterest, but most of them were video tutorial in some other languages, and this makes me to share my crochet version with all crochet lovers. They are actually quite easy to hook out with a small ball of yarn.

Cotton Yarn, I used Paton Grace Green and lace yarn green for this project
Size D/3 (3.25mm) crochet hook
Size C/2 (2.75mm) crochet hook
Tapestry needle and scissors
Abbreviations (US Terms):
ch – chain sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet sl st – slip stitch
st(s) – stitch(es)
Start with yellow yarn, 3.25 hook. Fasten off, ch 8, sl to form a ring, you can use magical ring for this step instead.
Rd 1: Ch 2, dc, 2sc; (2dc; 2ch)*7; sl to for a ring. (To dc into the circle, yarn over hook, insert your hook into the circle, yarn over hook, pull back through the circle and complete your dc). Total 8 sets.
Rd 2: Yarn color change if possible, (2dc, 2ch,2dc) into each 2ch of previous round.
Rd 3: Yarn color change if possible, (8dc into 2ch hole; sc into ch space)*8
Sl to join
Your piece will be quite ruffled at this point, and you will be folding this in half to be a butterfly already.
Round 4: Change to 2.75mm hook and yarnart yarn, picot stitch into each dc (you can chain into each stitches directly instead), I prefer the mix color by crocheting this way, see the result is quite impressing.
Sl at the end and join.
Fold into half.
Now chain 10, hook iinto 4th backwards, sl*7; ch 16, wrap the cord around the center of folded butterfly, sl into ch1, ch 10 again, hook into the 4ch backwards again, sl *7, then sl into ch1, cut off yarn with long tail.
Take your tapestry needle and sew to secure.
Now you can decorate it onto baby blanket, hat, headband, bunting or wall art, change the size and texture with various yarns and colors to match your decor.
